Last Adventure #2- Bangarang

Booted from Maxine’s

Chase has surpassed the 3 weeks mark and I must say one of the benefits of laundry being done every day is the opportunity to smuggle my own clothes into the mix whereas under normal circumstances it’s not allowed for Dad’s to do their clothes until every other linen in the household has been washed.

I didn’t give an update on Mom in the last post—she hasn’t stopped taking care of the entire family since the day we got home from the hospital. Safe to say if it was me in her place we’d be eating nothing but frozen pizzas for the foreseeable future. Simply amazing. I am too blessed.

We’ve gotten a local high school babysitter to help keep Lila and Cici entertained which is partly great having the extra help and partly like having a fourth kid who I make eggs for.

Sleep deprivation is seeping into other arenas. Lila’s teacher asked me if we had a cat. No? Apparently Lila’s been hissing at her teacher and it’s freaking her out. I didn’t mention that she’s definitely mimicking the “dinosaur” sounds I wake her up with for school when I’m too tired to negotiate. We also dressed Lila for picture day a day early. There are worse mistakes. Ciara continues to remind us when and how to keep the household running. She is the glue.

And Chase has been nothing but a the goodest of boys. I showed him my favorite movie – Hook (1991), Steven Spielberg with Robin Williams and Dustin Hoffman. I’m seeing things from a different angle this time around. To get sentimental, Moira’s speech really hit me when she is talking to grown-up workaholic Peter early on:

“Your children love you, they want to play with you. How long do you think that lasts? Soon Jack may not even want you to come to his games. We have a few special years with our children, when they’re the ones that want us around. After that you’re going to be running after them for a bit of attention. It’s so fast Peter. It’s a few years, and it’s over. And you are not being careful. And you are missing it.”

I welled up but perhaps most resonant was nanny’s lines when the grownups find Hook has taken their kids after returning home from the gala:

The children are screaming!

I feel seen.

One last monkey wrench is that our yard is under construction so I’ve fenced in the patio in with a hemp netting rig which makes it look like we live on the set of Hamilton.

That’s all from here folks. Manuscript review is schedule for Wednesday (finally, yay!). All is well. I’ll keep you posted on how that goes and next steps for the book.

Take care my friends,
Charlie
